Packagers are the newly respected Swiss Army Knife of the streaming industry.  They are designed to segment H.264 transport streams into pre-determined chunks and package or wrap the segmented streams into HLS or DASH.  A third function they are tasked with is serving these streams to thousands of users simultaneously.  Packagers often also apply DRM or content protection keys to secure the streams.  We support DAES-128, VCAS™ (Verimatrix®), and Widevine®. We can import DISH or Vubiquity™.

Packagers are typically fed the required profiles via HLS or TS from origin encoders or transcoders.  They do not typically encode or transcode.  They are designed to keep track and feed segments used by clients.

  • HTTP/HLS: Ingests, buffers, and serves live HLS using a buffer of any size (1–30 days). This huge HLS buffer is served to 10,000+ simultaneous users, each user with selectable time delay of playback… Allows user to play segments of any show from any day in the past.
  • HTTP/VOD: Serves MP4 and FLV files to 10,000 simultaneous users. Ideal real time “Trick Play” server for serving podcasts, etc.
  • HTTP/PROGRESSIVE: Acts as an HTTP Progressive Server to 10,000 simultaneous users by relaying content via most network input protocols: HLS, RTMP, UDP, RTP. Supports PS, FLV, TS, Ogg, ASF, and MJPEG formats with H.264, MPEG-2, VC-1, FLV, AAC, or AC-3 audio codecs. Perfect for near real time playback. NB: Progressive Download is where a file transfer is initiated, and during the transfer the client is able to play the media given the media and the client support that function. The server just has to transfer fast enough to allow real-time playback, so no exceptional configuration is necessary.

Optimizing of Servers:

HOW WE OPTIMIZE and ADD VALUE to our ATLAS™ Family of Products

When you purchase many machines we help you manage them all with a central management tool. Load balancing is also important when implementing larger Distribution + VOD systems in telcos, stadiums and schools. In large implementations there are many VOD servers. Each pull has to be found quickly. If the most local server is IO bound/busy then the request is made to another non busy server. Our DATAMINER KIT is designed to provide clean load balancing between several VOD servers and add easy to use configuration management.

 

There IS some magic to building efficient SERVERS. Throughput of servers is totally determined by optimizing Caching Algorithms, Memory I/O, and User Bandwidth. For best user experience we optimize all variables given your budget. There are 2 types of SERVERS. Each type is implemented differently.

Professional Application for creating OTT or IPTV channels on Roku® or Android™ set-top boxes.
